OCC Lip Tar

OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE COSMETICS Lip Tar All-Star Mini x 12 Set

I was in Sephora at Mall of America in early January looking for a foaming facial cleanser.  I like to make informed decisions. Reviews are great but testing a product can make all the difference. I didn't buy anything that day but before I scurried off to the next adventure, I smeared a highly-pigmented lip tar in a bright pink on. I had no idea what to expect at that point. I used too much. I wiped off some and quickly left, thinking $18 for a tube of lipstick?  Pretty but no. Not sure why the price point seemed high when I love Lancome's Juicy Tubes Ultra Shiny Lip Gloss at the exact same price.  We ate at Bubba Gump and went home. I was shocked to see my lips that night. The color was still there!

Since then, $18 seems like a great steal if I only need to apply it once - maybe twice - a day! However, once I saw the mini's, I knew I had to have them.

At $58, this was something I needed to wait to buy. Luckily, my employer uses rewards in the form of gift cards from a huge selection of stores. I received a $10 award one week and one for $15 the next.  With almost half of the cost covered, I was ready to order. The wait to order was hard, the wait to get them in the mail was even harder! I love the samples you get from Sephora too!

I set to work exploring this stunning assortment.  They are small. But if you've ever used a lip tar, you know that small does not mean they won't last long. I expect these to last longer than I'll wait to buy more!

First: primer (the clear one on the left)

I applied Matte Lip Tar Strumpet; no liner.  I don't need it.

I layered Metallic Lip Tar in Pris.

This noticeably changed the look from bold to much more shimmery.

Next, I tried layer Hello Sailor by Lipstick Queen over the Lip Tar.  In the first image, I have Hello Sailor on the bottom lip only.  Subtle difference but it's there.

For size reference.

I'm writing this the next morning, and I still have color on my lips.  Even after wiping it off to kiss my husband later last night.  I can go today with just applying a clear lip balm if I don't feel like a fresh application.  I fell asleep without washing my make up off last night so normally, this won't be the case but it's nice it has such staying power!

My lips did not get dried out from the lip tar, a common complaint, but I do constantly apply gloss or chapstick or something, even at home. I loved the Juicy Tube gloss layered over it. The colors are fun and I'm looking forward to experimenting more. I'm very much into pink and some of the colors aren't totally me so I plan to give a few away. I'd have no problem using them all but I'd rather share the joy! The full size lip brush that came with is a great addition to my small collection of brushes.  I'll be keeping the tars in the packaging they came in, because each tube has it's own little insert.  They aren't just stuck in there.  The packaging is specifically designed to hold each tube just right.  Little touches like that make me very happy! The colors are each labelled on the back of the tube as well.

This is what you get in this set:
6 x 0.08 - Matte Lip Tar in Clear (aka Primer), Divine, Clockwork, Psycho, Stalker, Strumpet
6 x 0.08 Metallic Lip Tar in Pris, Lovecraft, Yaoi, Super NSFW, Electric Granmda, Authentic
Precision Lip Brush

LIPSTICK QUEEN Hello Sailor

Thank you for stumbling onto my little space in this frontier of the wild wild internet.  This is an outlet for sharing my love of make-up, creativity, trying new things, and writing.  My real-life job is in a corporate setting, so I don't get much opportunity to be myself.  I always feel best on days when I'm put together. Some may feel uncomfortable with a face full of product.  Not me.  If my lips are naked, I feel naked.  So naturally. I'll start with a lip product.

Presenting: LIPSTICK QUEEN Hello Sailor Lipstick.

I purchased this from Ulta after wanting it for a few weeks.  A blue lipstick? Yes, please.  I am all for weird.  Hello, sailor!  It was a summer shade released for 2013.  I got it in winter 2014.  I am so-on-trend. ;)  I scoured reviews, watched videos about it, and went to the website for it.  I knew what I was getting myself into.  I knew better than to expect my lips to turn blue. This product did exactly what I expected it to.  It is light and sheer.  It is so buttery soft.  It tastes like NOTHING. I dislike so many lipsticks simply because I dislike the taste and smell of them. This is like a soft, smooth, caress for your lips. I am a big fan of color but this is subtle. It delivers though.  I feel like my lips are beautiful without making an obvious statement. A casual, carefree attitude while looking good.  I am getting some lip tars by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics later this week and I can't wait to layer Hello Sailor over the OCC lip tar, which essentially becomes a stain after a few hours.  It goes on with a brush, like lipstick, but as it has extreme staying power, it does not leave lips glossy or lubed up.  I want shine.  I am excited for the color the lips tars will bring, and I think together the two products will work great.  I already know the tars will require me to layer a gloss or clear balm over the color in order to make them work for me.  Hello Sailor can be work alone though.  So considering the use I will get from it and how much I love it, I am glad to have gone way out of my norm and bought a $25.00 lipstick.  It was worth it to me.  I had a coupon, which helped!

Hopefully you can tell how much fun it is to apply a blue lipstick!  Watch for the OCC lip tars post!
